From Zagreb: Fairytale Castle & Wine Tasting & Lunch

1.From Zagreb: Fairytale Castle & Wine Tasting & Lunch

★★★★★★★★★★4.8 · 28 reviews · 7 hours · from $329Our pick

Leave Zagreb with an English-speaking guide such as Mislav, Hrvoje, or Robert for a seven-hour visit to Trakoscan Castle, Vuglec Breg winery, and a local restaurant. You will see Zagorje hills, taste four wines, and enjoy lunch. Castle admission costs €6 extra, and the wine tasting is for adults 18 and older.

“What a wonderful contrast to being in a large group on a tour bus. Robert hosted only 3 of us. We basically had the castle to ourselves. The drive through the countryside was a nice change to the rush of Zagreb’s cityscape. The Vuglec Breg winery was a real treat. Beautiful setting, surprisingly good variety of white, red, and sparkling wines. And the meal! Tasty duck & veal from their Michelin star restaurant. Robert was not only a good driver but also provided good conversation about Croatia, both present and historical.”

2.Painting party at Art Bottega – Paint & Wine Studio in Zagreb

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 23 reviews · 2 hours 45 minutes (approx.) · from $44Best value

At Art Bottega on Ilica 51, you’ll spend about 2 hours and 45 minutes painting step by step with English support, supplied materials, and bottomless local wine. Hosts such as Clara guide the session, and you take your finished canvas home. No art experience is needed, and the small group is capped at 16 people.

“We booked well in advance, payment was made, confirmation provided. We received an email day of telling us class was delayed until 7pm vs the scheduled 6:30 time, and to arrive ten minutes early. When we showed up at 6:45pm, not only was the class not delayed and had already started 15 minutes prior, but we weren’t on the instructors list.”

3.Fairytale Castle & Wine Tasting & Lunch

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 19 reviews · 8 hours (approx.) · from $343

Leave Zagreb at 9 a.m. for Trakoscan Castle, then continue to Vuglec Breg for a cellar visit, five Croatian wines, local cheese, and lunch. Guides such as Ned, Robert, Vanja, and Harry have led this small-group day. The tour runs about eight hours, with pickup from Zrinjevac 2 and groups capped at 15.

“We had a very nice time on our tour to Trakoscan Castle and Vuglec Winery. Our guide Robert was friendly, timely, professional, and lovely to chat with about life in Croatia. The castle and museum are excellently restored, well kept, provide a lot of information, and clearly have some artifacts that one would not see anywhere else. Vuglec was heaven on earth - lovely views, friendly staff, great food, and plenty of good wine. Our only regret was spoiling our dinner - if you’re going to Vuglec, skip breakfast and plan on a light dinner, because the lunch is plentiful!”
